Brochacho Ryan

Being a Brochacho is a good thing. It is a badge of honor. A true Brochacho is the guy who can rally a car and paint a picture. He can watch a cartoon with his kids and dissect a piece of lierature. He can be a  but loves the outdoors... that being said here is my latest Brochacho adventure:

I now live in Dallas, Texas. It is a pretty good place to be. I decided I have to take advantage of every situation or location where I live. Dallas isn't a big outdoorsy place and I need to find a place to rally my future Baja Bug but for now I have to do the other things Brochachos do.

I have been getting into photography lately now that I have a phone that can do some cools tuff and takes good pics. I was in down town Fort Worth, the sister city to Dallas for work. I first ate a small local bbq place called Bailey's BBQ. What a cool little shack surrounded by buildings in the middle of the city. I had a brisquette sandwich... only Texans can do it that well.

Then I walked around the city (I try and walk for at least 5-10 minutes after big meals). I ended up on a cool site seeing trip and shot some really cool pics. I caught one of a girl walking in front of a Christian Church (lots of churches in Texas). Then I came across a Methodist church with a court yard. I caught a really clean looking walkway from one side to the other. I then went to the front of the church to check out the architecture... cool gothic look.

Ultimately I took a pic of Jesus in front of the church. It turned out pretty cool with the greens and blues along with the stone statue. What you can't see is the almost empty of cheap vodka on the ground in front of it... irony.

On my way back there was a huge cutout of a man with a top hat... it looked pretty cool so I took a pic of it.

Finally as I walked up to my truck I had to pee so bad! I couldn't do it where I usually do it in the wheel well so I took an old McDonalds cup and pulled it out while sitting in the truck and topped it off. Now the problem is this. I was parked right outside the federal building that hosts FBI agents and the Homeland Security division... I looked around before and didn't see anybody, but I would be wrong to say that noone saw me. There was a security camera posted high on the wall... I waved, smiled and drove off.

Almost ready

I was able to put some new padding in the bug on the roll bars. Then I removed the old seatbelts and put in 4 point harnesses. Eric put in a new and obnoxiously loud horn. We are ready to license it and make it my everyday driver.

Play time

I went down to the car and decided it was time to have some fun. I set up a tripod and put my phone on it to record my adventure. So my adventure was just going in circles in front of Eric's house. It was so fun spinning the tires and slamming around. Then I watched the video and realized it looks pretty lame. It felt like I was going so fast but apparently I wasn't. That was confirmed again when I was driving it around town and gave a ride to Paul. He asked if the speedometer worked cause there was no way we were only going 25mph. But we were. I guess that is a good thing. You can feel like you are speeding without actually doing it.

Now that it runs...

Well, now that the motor runs and everything looks good it was time to move on the the brakes. With help of Brochacho Paul, we bled the brakes and pumped them till we were blue in the face. Eventually they took hold and started to work. So we are fully up and running. The electrical all works except the horn. Just need to get it licensesd.

Beginnings

The first step to amazing adventures in the BMSC was getting the bug running. So last Wednesday I enlisted the help of Eric the magician. We cleaned out the gas tank and replaced the fuel filter. Then we started the process of playing with the carb. In a mere 30 minutes we had it running like a champ. We even managed to keep it idling. We went to back it out for a little drive but there were absolutely zero brakes. Pedal went right to the floor without resistance. So we just parked it and prepared for the next challenge.

Fixing the bug

Of course when I found the bug it was sitting behind a house out in the country. It hadn't been started in 10 years. Well I don't know that for a fact but it had been a long time. I called the guy that owned it and negotiated to buy it. Seriously a dream come true. I have always wanted one of these!!! Can I just say on a tangent, it feels really good to have a dream come true. Seriously, if you haven't had that happen you need to make it happen. Think of something you have always wanted and make it happen. Anyway, back to the bug. He first step was to clean it out. A lot of dirt and sun rotten foam on the roll cage.
I had a lot of help too. Eva was driving us to McDonald's.

Brochachos!!!

So here is the official blog for the Brochachos Motor Sports Club (BMSC). I would tell you our mission statement, but we don't have one. That would be way to formal for us. To begin, my name is Brandon and I like to party. Wait, that's not right. My name is Brandon though. Let me tell you a little about me and why BMSC needs to exist. As long as I can remember I have always loved going off-road. I love the idea of finding a destination off the beaten path. I also have always loved going fast. So the natural progression would be to combine those. Hence the love of Baja was born. Now I'm not telling you I am hardcore and know all sorts of cool stuff about it, cause I don't. But going fast in the dirt with a destination in mind seems perfect to me. The next thing to tell you is I have always loved small cars with a standard transmission. Those old European models seemed like such a chore to drive that it looked like you would always be engaged while driving. That appealed to me. So when you add all of this up you get me and my Baja bug. This is my story and why I am a brochacho. All you other Brochachos that want to be a part of our club just email me (lukebran@msn.com) with your story and a picture and I will post it. Remember, this is our blog, not my blog.
